Every couple’s wedding day is unique, but here’s a tried-and-true timeline tailored to a classic UK wedding day. From the early morning preparations to the sparkler send-off, this guide will walk you through what to expect and when – including my favourite moment: the Father’s First Look!

A detailed timeline ensures that nothing gets missed—whether it’s the look on your partner’s face when they see you for the first time or the candid laughs during the speeches. By planning ahead, I’ll be able to focus on creating stunning images without you having to worry about the clock.

The Ultimate Wedding Photography Timeline

Morning: Getting Ready (7:00–10:30 AM)

The morning of your wedding sets the tone for the rest of the day, and it’s one of my favourite times to capture candid moments.

What Happens?

  • Bridal prep begins with hair and makeup.
  • Bridesmaids, family members, and even the family dog may buzz around, adding to the excitement.
  • Details like the dress, shoes, bouquet, rings, and stationery are laid out for those beautiful flat-lay shots.
  • Groomsmen often get ready during this time, too, and if you’ve booked a second shooter, they’ll be with them to capture those buttoning-up-the-jacket and tying-the-tie moments.

Key Photography Moments:

Father’s First Look: This is where Dad (or another close loved one) sees the bride for the first time in her wedding dress. It’s emotional, raw, and one of the most heartwarming moments of the day. I always recommend scheduling 10–15 minutes for this – trust me, you’ll treasure these photos forever.

Details: Dress hanging in the window, close-ups of jewellery, shoes, and invitations.

Getting ready candids: Laughter with your bridesmaids and moments of quiet anticipation.

Pre-Ceremony: Final Touches and Guest Arrivals (10:30–11:15 AM)

The excitement builds as the ceremony draws closer!

What Happens?

  • Final touches on hair and makeup are completed.
  • Bridesmaids help the bride into her dress – another fantastic photo opportunity!
  • Meanwhile, guests start to arrive at the ceremony venue.
  • The groom and groomsmen will greet guests and possibly participate in a few last-minute adjustments.

Guests arrive at the venue, mingle, and find their seats.

The bride’s “reveal” to her bridesmaids – always full of cheers and tears.

The Ceremony (30 Minutes – 1 Hour)

The moment everyone’s been waiting for.

What Happens?

  • The bride walks down the aisle, often accompanied by her father or another loved one.

  • The officiant announces the newlyweds, and you share your first kiss as a married couple!

  • The bridal procession – lots of emotion from the bride, groom, and guests.
  • Wide-angle shots of the ceremony space.
  • Close-ups during the vows and ring exchange.
  • I’ll capture the kiss from the best angle so it looks picture-perfect!

Congratulations, you’re married! Now it’s time to celebrate.

What Happens?

  • Guests gather outside for confetti shots – a joyful and lively moment!
  • Group portraits of the family and the wedding party are taken.
  • Candid shots of guests enjoying drinks and canapés.
  • The newlyweds might sneak away for romantic couple portraits during the golden hour.

Wedding Breakfast (2:00–4:15 PM)
